Facts about the Games Volunteer Program

100,000 in total (70,000 for the Games and 30,000 for the Paralympics )
Volunteers work in the areas of Safety Controls, Media Operations, Welcoming International Visitors and are stationed at venues, training areas and "float" from place to place.
There are four different times for volunteers to work.
   1. "Towards the Games"- months and years before the Games
   2. During the Games
   3. At the Paralympics
   4. BOCOG Pre-Games Projects
Specialized volunteers are being recruited in the follow areas:

Volunteers At Work Already

Disabled volunteer athletes tested the accessibility of Games venues and popular Beijing sites to make sure that all visitors would have easy access to the events and attractions.
"Smile" wristlets are being distributed to Event volunteers in Beijing to spread the Summer Games Spirit and promote courtesy and tolerance.
Games volunteers practiced for Summer 2008 by volunteering at the International Softball Federation's XI Women's World Championship in Beijing. They all worked very hard and proved that volunteers would be of great help during the Games.

Expectations and Requirements

All work is voluntary and unpaid. Note: If you are selected to be an eC-T Volunteer, you will receive various other stipends and incentives based on the service performed.
Volunteers pay for their own expenses. Meals during service hours are provided. All volunteers receive a certificate and badge and exceptional volunteers are eligible for awards.
Volunteers are expected to attend trainings and conduct themselves professionally during their service at the Games.
Must be at least 18 years old by April of 2008.
Have foreign language skills and conversational Chinese skills

What To Do Next

To become either a Games volunteer or an eC-T volunteer, please type your application into the Special Requirement box in your 2008 trip registration. If you have already registered, please e-mail your application to 2008@ec-t.com. We ask that you fully complete our registration process with a $100 deposit. The deposit will go toward your overall travel costs. Games Volunteers' applications will be send to the Beijing Summer Games Committee. eC-T Volunteers' applications will be evaluated in house.
