Trip 2012 - Tour Destinations

The City of London -- London is both the capital and the largest urban area of England. It is an amazingly diverse city, drawing cultures from all over the world. Over 300 languages are spoken there. Now is your chance to see one of the major cities of the world. Start off by seeing the world heritage sites: the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and The Tower of London, where the Crown Jewels are kept. You can then see the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, then tuck into hearty English fare at Porters in Covenant garden.

Beyond that, you can also tour the globe theatre or London Bridge, visit the famous market at petticoat Lane, or shop at Carnaby Street. London is a city for all interests!

Rural Tour of Hampshire -- If you want a relaxing day away from the bustle of the city to see the heart of rural England, then visit the glorious rural countryside that inspired John Keats, Charles Dickens, and Jane Austen. Stroll through sleepy villages, drink in the bustle of a busy market town, have lunch in one of the picturesque rural pubs, and catch a nostalgic steam train on the Waterford Line. Then, spend a leisurely afternoon touring classic English gardens, such as the famous Mottisfont Abbey and Garden, followed by a traditional High Tea.

Canterbury and Dover -- Visit Canterbury Cathedral, one of the most historic and famous cathedrals in all of Europe. Tour the ancient St. Augustine Abbey and fully immerse yourself in medieval life by participating in the Canterbury Tales recreation theater.

Then, go south to the famed white cliffs of Dover. Visit historic Dover Castle and explore the World War II tunnels within the cliffs. Walking the White Cliffs of Dover is well-known around the world. Visit the South Foreland Lighthouse or just enjoy the magnificent views of the Straits of Dover.

Winchester, then Brighton Beach -- Go from the religious grandeur of Winchester cathedral to the party spot of England, Brighton Beach. Winchester is England's ancient capital and an unspoiled cathedral city. Explore the 11th-century cathedral's Great Hall, which houses the mysterious Arthurian round table. Then, explore Winchester's popular shopping streets and architecture.

Following Winchester, travel to the seaside city of Brighton, one of Britain's liveliest cities. Brighton has a bohemian, artistic, and eccentric atmosphere that combines the modern with the traditional. Brighton is a shopper's dream, with the Lanes, an intricate maze of twisting alleyways filled with antiques, jewelers, interior designs, and famous labels, as well as tempting chocolates. Visit Brighton Pier for a large choice of bars, rides, arcades, and traditional fish 'n' chips shops. Walk along the only sandy beach within the area and explore the artist quarter underneath the arches.

Stratford-on-Avon and Warwick Castle -- No tour of England would be complete without seeing the birthplace of Shakespeare and Warwick Castle, standing since medieval times. Luckily, this package has both! First, visit Stratford-on-Avon to see the Shakespeare Exhibition and Birthplace Museum where you can tour the birthplace and gravesite of the great Bard. Then, see a performance by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the world's best Shakespearean troupe.

After that, travel to Warwick Castle. This castle dates back to 1068 and beyond the moat and fairy-tale fortifications, there's something for every taste. Besides the sumptuous great hall and staterooms, it features an educational armory, a torture chamber, a knight in shining armor on horseback that rotates with a merry band of musical jesters, the famous King Maker exhibit, a re-creation of a royal weekend party, and landscaped gardens and parks. Finally, there's the breathtaking 250-step climb to the spectacular view at the top of the castle.

The Megalith Tour: Stonehenge and Avesbury -- Stonehenge is one of the most famous prehistoric monuments and a World Heritage site. Less well-known, but equally as impressive are the megaliths of Avesbury. Travel through the English countryside to the stone circle of Stonehenge and see the impressive stonework up close.

Then, travel north to Avesbury and wander among the mysterious stones, mounds, and curious patterns that make up this fascinating 1,400-foot-wide Neolithic circle. Visit the Alexander Keiller Archaeology Museum, and then, have a meal in the village of Avesbury, which grew up completely inside the megalithic circle.
